The Eidolic 2.5 mono plug - now with a more spacious barrel - is a complete solution for the Oppo and Sennheiser HD700 headphones, for a product that allows for a simplified installation process, enhanced durability, superior ergonomics, and a unique appearance. These connectors also fit new Hifiman headphones, including HE400S and HE1000, as well as Nighthawk.
Perfect size and shape. The 2.5mm connectors for Oppo, HD700, Hifiman, and Nighthawk offer a unique challenge to the audio cable industry and anyone looking to build a high-performing cable. There is really no good way to support custom cables for these headphones simultaneously until now. We have a streamlined 10mm barrel diameter that will fit very compact jack layouts, but a newly-expanded 8mm rear opening and 8mm front opening will fit the vast majority of cables. We have also shortened the barrel slightly to make the plugs less obtrusive.
The extended, narrow collar behind the plug shaft allows for precision fit into these headphones’ recessed openings, and may fit a variety of future headphones that use this connection standard. The long shaft length will fit openings both wide (HD700) and narrow (Oppo), with socket depths both deep (HD700) and shallow (Oppo). This design is one-of-a-kind and is not based on any other designs, engineered specifically for these two headphone series’ with countless new applications appearing with each new headphone release. They are secure for flush sockets such as HE1000, but also have the required length to fit obscured sockets such as HE400S and deep recesses such as Nighthawk.
Ideal installation conditions. The solder contacts inside the plug are thoroughly insulated and properly spaced to allow effortless cable installation. Just solder the positive and negative wires for each channel’s Eidolic 2.5mm plug, screw on the barrel, and top up the barrel with hot-melt adhesive for a cable that will last the life of your headphones. This design has been prototyped and tested over an extended period to ensure it goes the distance. The barrel is treated to ensure its interior is nonconductive, and the plug avoids the use of magnetically charged materials wherever possible.
The best metallurgy for each design. A high-conductivity, high strength combination of gold and brass is employed for this connector. Superior plating thickness and complete plating of all plug surfaces set this connector apart.
Unique barrel aesthetics. The Eidolic 2.5mm mono plug is incredibly light and compact due to the choice of materials, which also confer a near-indestructible exterior; the revised dimensions reduce weight slightly. The new black anodized aluminum shell is textured with a proprietary process that yields a tough, matte finish that sparkles in the light. A distinctive crimson Eidolic logo is screened and cured onto the upper area of the barrel. Even the most abrasive conditions will not harm the exterior of these connectors.
From day 1, Eidolic connectors have been designed with transparency in mind - both in sound quality and in their code of ethics. These connectors will always be sold with the exact materials and alloy types stated clearly - if there is ever a question, it is met with an unclouded answer. Many connectors sold today are described as “pure copper” or a “copper alloy” when they are actually tellurium copper (a strong, machinable alloy that is within 5% of pure copper’s conductivity and is 99.5% copper) or brass (a “copper alloy” that is generally about 60% copper). Sometimes the description gets more creative, mentioning “hybrid” compositions and alloys. The only way to sell connectors without misleading the public is to call each metal what it is - brass, phosphor bronze, tellurium copper, or pure copper. There are all sorts of plugs for sale around the world described as “OCC pin” or “pure silver connector” or “pure copper connector” that come back as brass every time - and their “rhodium plating” is nickel - a less conductive look-alike. There are connectors for which a pure copper assembly is simply impossible, being too delicate and impossible to accurately machine with such a soft base metal. While no factory would take on such a project, pure copper is what is claimed. For Eidolic, the truth comes first.
